Foil stamping is a special kind of printing procedure where heat, pressure, and a metallic paper (foil) is used to create different shiny designs and graphics on various materials. Foil stamping gives the stamped design a shiny and incredible look and is increasingly becoming the preferred method of printing in many an industry.
Foil stamping is also referred to as hot stamping (because of the use of heat), foil printing, dry stamping, and leaf stamping.
Foil stamping is called dry printing because it does not use any sort of ink for printing purposes. It is a dry stamping process where ink, some sort of magnetism, or plates are not used to print letters and pictures as is used in traditional printing methods. In place of all these things, foil stamping uses dies or carved metal plates, heat, and foil in the stamping process.
In the foil stamping process, the die or the sculpted metal plate comes in contact with the foil and transfers a thin layer of the foil film onto the intended surface. As the metal plate is heated, the foil sticks to the surface only in the design of the plate and in the required areas with the desired imprint.
Foil stamping uses heat and metallic film in a specialty printing process that produces a shiny design on paper, vinyl, textiles, wood, hard plastic, leather, and other materials. Hot stamping polymer plate making process for CT-65 Hot stamping machine
To make the hot stamping polymer plate, you do not need to use any printer. You need to use the UV Exposing box at the bottom of the machine.
First, print the texts you designed in computer on the inkjet film with inkjet printer.
Note:
1. This inkjet film is only coated on one side. Print texts on the coated (matte) side of the film!
2. Mirror print the texts or the images.
3. The texts should be white color(transparent), all the other area should be in black color. It's better to use the original ink when you print the film and the ink should be as black as possible. Or the exposing effect will not be good enough.
4.The image is well-resisting and you can use it next time.
Second: Cover the well printed film on the hot stamping plate. To make sure they contact tightly and no bubbles in between.(You can use sticky tape to bind the edge).Put the plate into UV exposing box, the black area will be cliched by the UV light during the exposing. Exposing period: 10-15 mins. When the exposing is over. You take out the plate. Then you can brush out the cliche in water with soft brush or sponge.You will find the texts is embossing out. Then you can do the stamping work.

How to fix the plate to the printing platform ?
Q: Please help to tell us how to fix the cliche plate to the pad printing platform.
A: We usually send polymer plates together with the machine, for polymer plate , you can use double side adhesive glue to fix the plate to the platform.
For the steel plate, there are 4 holes in the plate. You can use the screws to fix the plate.
Refer to the image below, you can see the thin steel plate contains 4 holes in each corner.
For the plate without drilled holes, please buy the strong double side adhensive in your local market to fix the plate. You can find it in printing store.
A: We usually send polymer plates together with the machine, for polymer plate , you can use double side adhesive glue to fix the plate to the platform.
For the steel plate, there are 4 holes in the plate. You can use the screws to fix the plate.

How to calculate the hard cover size for a book block ?
After the book block is prepared, measure the size of the book block.Suppose Book block size:
Length: X mm
Width(book thickness): Y mm
Height: Z mm
Grey board thickness: A mm
Material used: Plastic printable tacking paper + Grey board
Hard Cover Data Result :
Spine height: Z + 3mmX2 ( Note 1: hard cover size is usually 3mm larger than the book block. Then, the hard cover can protect the book block)
Spine width: Y + A x 2 -0.5mm
Gap beside spine: 10mm each(We usually use 10mm for each gap)
Cover height: Z + 3mmX2
Cover width: X - 3.5mm
(Note 2: 3.5 means the cover width is usually 3.5mm smaller than the book block width)
Tacking paper height: Z+3mmx2+17mmX2
(Note 3:17 means the folding edge width of the tacking paper is 17mm.)
Tacking paper width: (cover width+10mm) x 2 + spine width + 17mmx2
How to bind delicate hard cover book by our Perfect binder
Steps to bind a delicate hard cover book using our Perfect binding machine.( Hard cover book binding diagram )
Step 1. Prepare the inside pages book block (A).
Step 2: Prepare two sheets end paper (B) whose size is double of the inside page. Fold the end papers in the middle. Place one end paper in front of the book block and place another end paper in the back of the book block. The end papers will be used to connect the book block and the hard cover later. ( Note: use 80-100 lb paper as the end paper. Do not choose the paper too thin, or they may be taken apart easily.)
Step 3: Find another common blank paper (C) to wrap the book block and end paper on the outside. Use the paper C as a softcover for the book. Bind the the three into a soft cover book use our perfect binding machine.
Step 4: Tear off the front page and the back page of the soft cover (C). It is only used to provide a book spine to bind the papers together. Use paper cutter cut the book block from 3 edges to the book size you want. ( Now you can choose to add headband in the two edges of the book block.)
Step 5: Stick the well-done hard cover to the end paper. Use double adhesive glue tape to stick the four edges of the end paper in both front side and back side. To make it more firm, you can stick two tape strips in the middle, too. Finally, match the proper size hard cover to the book block. The delicate hard cover book binding is finished.
( Note: the book block can not be bind into the hard cover directly by the glue binder because the pages may fall easily. You need add one soft cover to bind the book first. After that, tear off the softcover, the papers are glued to the spine together. Then, use double side adhesive tape to stick the end paper to the book block. )

VeloBind is used to permanently rivet pages together using a plastic strip on the front and back of the document. Sheets for the document are punched with a line of holes near the bound edge. A series of pins attached to a plastic strip called a Comb feeds through the holes to the other side and then goes through another plastic strip called the receiving strip. The excess portion of the pins is cut off and the plastic heat-sealed to create a relatively flat bind method. VeloBind provides a more permanent bind than comb-binding, but is primarily used for business and legal presentations and small publications.

It is commonly used for atlases and other publications where it is necessary or desirable to be able to open the publication back on itself without breaking the spine. Spiral coil binding uses a number of different hole patterns for binding documents. The most common hole pattern used with this style is 4:1 pitch (4 holes per inch). Proclick (GBC) is a relatively new binding style that was originally designed for use with a 3:1 pitch wire binding hole pattern. This type of binding uses an element that snaps shut and can be easily opened for editing purposes. The editing abilities of this style make it popular with direct sales organizations and mobile offices. Proclick is manufactured exclusively by the General Binding Corporation.
ZipBind is also manufactured by the General Binding Corporation and offers easy editing. However, the binding spines for this style are designed to work with the 9/16" plastic comb binding hole pattern. Like Proclick, Zipbind spines can easily be opened and closed without the need for a binding machine. Thus the addition and deletion of pages is a simple process provided that the pages have already been punched.

Some of the different types of thermally activated binding include:
Perfect binding is often used, and gives a result similar to paperback books. National Geographic is one example of this type. Paperback or soft cover books are also normally bound using perfect binding. They usually consist of various sections with a cover made from heavier paper, glued together at the spine with a strong flexible glue. The sections are rough-cut in the back to make them absorb the hot glue. The other three sides are then face trimmed. This is what allows the magazine or paperback book to be opened. Thermal Binding uses a one piece cover with glue down the spine to quickly and easily bind documents without the need for punching. Individuals usually purchase "thermal covers" or "therm-a-bind covers" which are usually made to fit a standard size sheet of paper and come with a glue channel down the spine. The paper is placed in the cover, heated in a machine (basically a griddle), and when the glue cools, it adheres the paper to the spine. Thermal glue strips can also be purchased separately for individuals that wish to use customized/original covers. However, creating documents using thermal binding glue strips can be a tedious process which requires a scoring device and a large format printer.
A cardboard article looks like a hardbound book at first sight, but it is really a paperback with hard covers. Many books that are sold as hardcover are actually of this type. The Modern Library series is an example. This type of document is usually bound with thermal adhesive glue using a perfect binding machine. Tape Binding refers to a system that wraps and glues a piece of tape around the base of the document. The sections are rough-cut in the back to make them absorb the hot glue. The other three sides are then face trimmed. This is what allows the magazine or paperback book to be opened. Unibind can be used to bind soft covered documents with a look that is similar to perfect binding. It can also be used for binding hardcover books and photo books. Like Thermal Binding, unibind usually requires you to purchase a one piece coverset to bind your documents.
